What are the benefits of the hyperbaric chamber in patients who have suffered a stroke?

Cerebral infarction occurs when an area of the brain tissue is left without blood supply because it obstructs a cerebral artery, usually by a thrombus or a plunger. Instead, stroke occurs when a blood vessel ruptures and affects the brain. Both are also known as strokes.

There are risk factors that increase the possibility of suffering any of these diseases. In the case of a stroke, the risk will depend on different factors:

Risk factors of an ACV that can NOT be avoided.

  • Genetic factors.
  • Sex
  • Chronic diseases.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Menopause.
  • Heart diseases.
  • Among others.

Risk factors of an ACV that CAN be avoided:

  • Hypertension.
  • The overweight.
  • Smoke.
  • High cholesterol.
  • Alcohol and drugs.
  • Sedentary.
  • Unbalanced diet.
  • Among others.

Hyperbaric oxygenation treatment (HBOT) plays a very important role in patients who have suffered a stroke. HBOT promotes axonal regeneration both central and peripheral, decreasing cerebral edema and its anti-inflammatory effect, as well as the severity of cerebral infarction, thus maintaining the integrity of the blood-brain barrier, improving tissue perfusion by preventing the spread of ischemia and by therefore it limits the area of injury.

All these physiological processes result in the reduction and attenuation of the possible sequelae after the event, reversal of motor deficit, improvement of motor function and acceleration of rehabilitation time.
