Indicated for different pathologies, it is a non-invasive method that supplies oxygen to the blood, recovering even damaged tissues. It also improves the quality of life in patients with Parkinson’s, autism and Alzheimer’s among others.

Treatment with hyperbaric oxygenation (HBOT) reduces the risk of ulcers and diabetic foot, it is even indicated for advanced stage lesions because it helps to avoid amputation, infection and fungi. According to the doctors of BioBarica, it reduces the recovery time after an injury by 50%, but also generates other benefits applied to different circumstances.

Now, what is it?

HBOT is a non-invasive method that consists in supplying oxygen at high concentrations in a pressurized hyperbaric chamber at a minimum of 1.4 ATM atmospheres (higher than the normal ambient atmospheric pressure of 1 atmosphere). The person is breathing 100% oxygen. This gas is transported to the blood, and manages to reach even damaged tissues.

What is indicated for?

Medical professionals indicate HBOT to treat the following pathologies

Medical Clinic: fibromyalgia, migraines, tinnitus, sudden deafness, chronic fatigue. In the case of tinnitus and sudden deafness, because the oxygen supply deflates the inner ear. In the case of fibromyalgia: the effects on neurotransmitters and their desinflammatory action reduce the pains produced by this disease.

Wounds: ulcers, diabetic foot, eschar, burns, grafts, post surgical wounds. It helps healing.

Traumatology: joint and ligament diseases, pre and post surgical, traumas, injuries, rehabilitation, osteomyelitis.

Sports: muscular injuries, ligaments, tendons. Subacute and chronic fatigue syndrome, post-exercise recovery.

Neurology: ACV, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, spinal cord injuries. And also Parkinson’s, since it markedly reduces the symptoms of the disease by redistributing blood flow to the central nervous system and stimulating nerve tissue repair.

Child neurology: cerebral palsy, autism spectrum, PDD, headaches.

Rheumatology: arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, vasculitis, scleroderma due to its anti-inflammatory effects.

Oncology: radiotherapy injuries, tumors.

Rehabilitation: post acv, injuries with brain damage, muscular injuries, osteoarticular, postsurgical and traumatisms.

Rehabilitation of neurological patients: Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s.

What are the benefits?

  • Increases oxygenation in all tissues, even those that are damaged
  • It has anti-inflammatory effects from vasoconstriction
  • Stimulates the cells that produce collagen
  • Stimulates the immune response
  • Increases blood flow, especially in poorly irrigated tissues
  • It has bactericidal and bacteriostatic action
  • Accelerates wound healing times
  • Produces angiogenesis, which is the stimulation of blood vessel formation
  • It favors the detoxification of gases and toxins
  • Accelerates the rehabilitation processes in injuries of ligaments, bones, joints or muscles
  • Stimulates the differentiation of bone-forming cells, favoring osteogenesis and bone repair
  • Decreases symptoms related to depression, anger, sadness or fatigue
  • Involved in the regulation of oxidative stress
  • Reduces muscle fatigue
  • Increase energy at the cellular level

How long i the treatment?

The session is relaxing and pleasant. That is why it is suggested to enter with comfortable clothes and without shoes. Patients can also enter with pillows, blankets, music and books. The duration and frequency of each session may vary. Currently, there is a consensus among specialists that they last from 60 to 90 minutes, in hyperbaric chambers of less than 1.5 ATA with a frequency between 2 to 6 times per week.

A session does not act as a remedy. It has a certain average life, therefore the more sessions, the better results. The duration and frequency of the sessions should be indicated by the medical professional in order to obtain maximum efficiency in the treatment.

Who indicates the treatment?

The indication of hyperbaric therapy must always be done by a doctor. We do not talk about HBOT as a cure, but as a complementary treatment that speeds recovery times and alleviates certain symptoms depending on the pathologies. Hyperbaric chambers generate a hyperoxia in the body, basic and fundamental for proper cell function.

The human body can live 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water but only 3 minutes without oxygen.
