Hyperbaric Oxygenation Treatment (HBOT) is a non-invasive method that consists of supplying oxygen at high concentrations in a pressurized hyperbaric chamber at a minimum of 1.4 ATM atmospheres (higher than the normal ambient atmospheric pressure of 1 atmosphere). The person is breathing 100% oxygen. This gas is transported to the blood and manages to reach even the damaged tissues.

This therapy accelerates the healing of chronic wounds such as ulcers, diabetic foot and reduces the risks of major amputations, favoring the regeneration of tissue and enhancing the effectiveness of antibiotics in infected wounds. In severe and acute injuries, mortality can decrease.

Hyperbaric chamber treatment reduces recovery times by 50% after an injury, but also generates other benefits. It increases plasticity and favors the recovery of neurological diseases such as cerebral palsy, cerebrovascular accidents, migraines, autism, brain traumas, and cerebral hypoxia.

In addition, hyperbaric oxygenation is an excellent treatment to reduce neurological deterioration caused by Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. It reduces pain and inflammation in rheumatological diseases, significantly improving the quality of life in patients with fibromyalgia, arthritis, osteoarthritis.

Thanks to the fact that it promotes the generation of bone tissue, HBOT is very useful in patients with osteoporosis, osteopenia, osteomyelitis and bone fractures. It also recovers tissue damaged by radiation even in chronic lesions and increases the effectiveness of radiotherapy in the treatment of some tumors.

    • Increases oxygenation in all tissues, even those that are damaged
    • It has anti-inflammatory effects from vasoconstriction
    • Stimulates the cells that produce collagen
    • Stimulates the immune response
    • Increases blood flow, especially in poorly irrigated tissues
    • It has bactericidal and bacteriostatic action
    • Accelerates wound healing times
    • Produces angiogenesis, which is the formation of blood vessels
    • Promotes the detoxification of gases and toxins
    • Accelerates rehabilitation processes in ligament, bone, joint or muscle injuries
    • Stimulates the differentiation of bone-forming cells, favoring osteogenesis and bone repair
    • Involved in the regulation of oxidative stress related to aging and different diseases
    • Reduces muscle fatigue after sports activity
    • Increase energy at the cellular level

The medical professionals indicate hyperbaric oxygenation treatment for pathologies of the following specialties:

Medical Clinic: in tinnitus and sudden deafness, the oxygen supply deflates the inner ear. The effects on neurotransmitters and their desinflammatory action reduce the pain produced by Fibromyalgia and migraines. It is also applied to chronic fatigue.

Favors the healing of ulcers, diabetic foot, eschar, burns, grafts, post-surgical wounds.

Stimulates bone regeneration, which is why it is used in joint and ligament diseases, pre and post-surgical, traumas, injuries, rehabilitation, and osteomyelitis.

Improves muscle injuries, ligaments, tendons, subacute and chronic fatigue syndrome. Accelerates post-exercise recovery. It produces scarring of the muscular tissue and of ligaments and tendons, accelerating the recovery times of sports injuries.

Redistributes blood flow in the central nervous system, decreases neuroinflammation and stimulates the repair of nerve tissues, so it reduces the symptoms of stroke, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, spinal cord injuries and Parkinson’s.

Favors the elongation or growth of axons or nerve fibers stimulating neuroplasticity and improving some neurological functions in cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorders and migraines

Due to its anti-inflammatory effects, it is beneficial for patients with arthritis, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, vasculitis, and scleroderma. It reduces pain, inflammation and improves the cutaneous manifestations of these collagenopathies produced by ischemia at the extremities level.

Cicatrizes acute and chronic injuries by radiotherapy and stimulates oxygenation that can prevent the growth of tumors and make radiotherapy more effective.

It works as a post-stroke therapy for injuries with brain damage, muscular, osteoarticular, post-surgical injuries, and traumatisms because it favors decreased neuronal flow and improves peripheral neuroplasticity. It delays the neurodegenerative process in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s because it decreases neuroinflammation and oxidative stress in the brain.

The hyperbaric chamber session is a biosecure treatment with practically no risk for the patient and the operator. The session in the Revitalair technology chamber is done at treatment pressures that produce a decrease in neuronal excitability so that a relaxing sensation is obtained.

It is suggested to enter with comfortable clothes and without shoes. Patients can also enter with pillows, blankets, music, and books. The duration and frequency of each session may vary. Currently, there is a consensus among specialists to last 60 to 90 minutes in hyperbaric chambers of less than 1.5 ATA with a frequency between 2 to 6 times per week.

It is important to emphasize that a session does not act as a remedy. It has a certain average life. The duration and frequency of the sessions should always be indicated by the medical professional in order to obtain maximum efficiency in the treatment.

Hyperbaric oxygenation treatment in the BioBarica centers is performed at 1.45 atm, an effective and completely safe pressure at the neurological level since there is no risk of oxygen toxicity.

In each session of hyperbaric oxygenation therapy, the ears should be decompressed to avoid slight discomfort during the compression and decompression process of the hyperbaric chamber, which is performed only in 5 minutes.
